Respite Care Orientation

Orientation to the Program

For over 40 years, BPA Health has pioneered behavioral health in Idaho & the Northwest.  It is our pleasure to manage the Children’s Mental Health Voucher Respite Care contract for the State of Idaho.

Our mission is to provide our families and providers with first-class service and be a partner in assisting our families in accessing the respite care benefits available.

Respite care benefits are for families of youths with a diagnosed Serious Emotional Disturbance or SED and are meant to allow the family time to focus on self-care, to give attention to other siblings, or to be able to tend to important matters.

In this program, the legal guardian or who we refer to as the “primary caregiver” will select a respite care provider who is part of the child’s natural support system.  This means the individual selected to care for the child is a grandparent, aunt or uncle, friend, neighbor, or someone who is familiar to the child.

The primary caregiver and the respite care provider will then work together to ensure they have a mutual understanding of the unique nature of the child’s specific needs, the experience the provider brings, and have discussed logistics such as payment, as well as time and frequency of the care needed.

Through the idahorespitecare.com website, primary caregivers will be able to apply for benefits, learn about the program, create a comprehensive action plan, and complete an invoice to receive reimbursement.  Providers will be able to learn about the program, complete optional training, and gain access to training resources.  For more information, watch the “getting started” video.

If at any point in becoming familiar with the Idaho Respite Care Program you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 208-947-5154 or toll-free at 1-866-617-3126.  You are also welcome to email us at [email protected].
