Idaho Vouchered

Respite Care Program

Through the Idaho Vouchered Respite Care Program, parents/legal guardians get financial relief for services rendered by a caregiver in a child’s natural support system. Qualified families with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) get time to decompress and tend to important matters with peace of mind that their child is being cared for.

Respite Care can be used to conduct personal business, including going to the gym, running errands, attending doctor appointments, attending activities, spend quality time with other family members, and other daily life activities.

Before applying for a respite care voucher, your child will need to have a Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) tool completed to authorize your child for a respite voucher. The CANS tool can be managed and scheduled by your child’s mental health provider or Liberty Healthcare.

At the core of the Idaho Vouchered Respite Care Program are the Youth Empowerment Services (YES) Principles of Care. These principles guide and inform the delivery of children’s mental health services.  For more information about YES, please visit https://yes.idaho.gov/
